What Is the Acai Berry?
You may have heard about the acai berry, a small fruit that grows in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. These acai palm trees and their fruit have been used by natives of South America t for centuries to for a variety of different things, including as herbal cures and as food. The fresh berry tastes like an amazing blend of chocolate and berries. Here’s a bit more about the acai berry. The fruit originated in South America.
If these fruits grow in the rainforest, why aren’t we eating fresh berries instead of getting acai berry supplements in the form of liquids, pills, and powders? The problem is that the acai berry does not stay fresh for very long, and within hours of being picked, it’s spoiled to the point that it can’t be eaten at all. To overcome this, it has to be freeze dried and made into alternate forms. There are now acai berry tea bags, juices, powders, purees, and even capsules. While acai berry flavoring is included in some juices and waters, those products may not actually contain any acai berry at all. Others, however, are more natural and do not include fillers or other additives. Research has shown that a supplement such as the acai berry may be able to provide you with a number of benefits.
It Contains Essential Acids
If you dislike fish and the taste of fish oil supplements, you may not be getting enough Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids. Fortunately, the acai berry is high in all three of them. These essential acids are necessary because the body can’t produce enough of them, but they’re needed in the synthesis of lecithin, melanin, and prostaglandin, all necessary hormones. They can also assist in maintaining healthy levels of triglycerides, cholesterol, and reduce insulin resistance.
It’s full of Antioxidants
Acai berries are also very high in antioxidants, specifically polyphenois and anthocyanins. These antioxidants destroy free radicals, thus preventing the cells from undergoing oxidation. Oxidation damages the cells and can even lead to DNA mutating.
It’s Full of Vitamins
The acai berry contains large amounts of both Vitamins A and C. These two vitamins both function as antioxidants, but they do so much more as well. Without Vitamin A, our nails, skin, hair, and vision all start to deteriorate. Without Vitamin C, the immune system starts to degrade, and the body falls into general disrepair. Both are absolutely essential.
Is the Acai Berry a Scam?
Although many people have said positive things about the acai berry supplements they use, there are still a lot who talk about acai berry scams and how people are just wasting money. Just like with any product, there are going to be people trying to make a quick buck by latching on to the next big thing and creating imposter products. Always be sure to read the list of ingredients or ask the manufacturer for a list of ingredients. If they refuse to give you one, and if the product sounds too good to be true, you may be looking at a scam.
