Superfoods and Arthritis

Arthritis can be a crippling disease as it affects most joints in the body of its victims.  Being subject to hot and cold and fluctuations in the weather, arthritis can be hard to control with prescription drugs only.  Researches are now beginning to understand how certain foods can also help with inflammation and pain in the joints and make daily life a bit more comfortable for those suffering from arthritis.

Salmon is among the top foods for containing high amounts of healthy fats, calcium and vitamin D making it ideal for those with arthritis.  Aside from arthritis, these nutrients are also know to protect the cardiovascular system, controlling blood clots and repairing any artery damage that may have previously existed.  They are also known to help lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

As folate and vitamin B6 are known for fighting and targeting arthritis specifically, bananas are a great fruit to add to your diet as they are not only high in potassium but in folate and vitamin B6 as well.  They are easy for the body to digest and sweet to the taste.

For those who want to increase their vitamin C levels but aren’t the biggest fan of citrus type fruits, try including green peppers in your diet.  1 green pepper contains nearly 200% of your daily vitamin C needs.  More colorful peppers such a red and orange contain almost double the amount of vitamin C as a green pepper so a variety of peppers in your diet is suggested.

If you aren’t in a climate where you can get a lot of natural sun you will need to supplement by getting this from your diet.  Although there aren’t many foods that naturally contain vitamin D, shrimp contain roughly 30% of your daily need of vitamin D in just 3 oz of meat.  Shrimp also contains high levels of omega fatty acids and vitamin c along with other nutrients for good health.

You may also want to start taking an acai berry supplement. Research has shown that a supplement such as the acai berry may be able to provide you with a number of benefits.
