Should You Take Iron?
One of the most essential minerals your body needs is iron. Iron can do a lot for you. The main reason it’s a necessary mineral is that it helps the blood to move oxygen throughout the body. Without oxygen, the cells in the body begin to die. If you have poor circulation, it may be because you’re low on iron.
Hemoglobin, the part of the red blood cell that transports oxygen and is made up of iron, uses about two-thirds of all of the iron in the body. Without enough iron to make hemoglobin, a person becomes deficient. The term for this is being anemic. There are a number of different symptoms of anemia. The most notable is that you’ll become very tired after a very short amount of activity. This fatigue will affect every part of your body.

How Much Iron do you Need?
The amount of iron a person needs depends on several factors. Age is one—young children actually need more iron than older kids or adults because of how quickly they’re growing. The amount of needed iron decreases until adolescence, when girls actually need to increase the amount of iron. This is because they lose iron during their monthly menstruation. Those who have ulcers, are undergoing dialysis, have gastrointestinal issues, or suffer from several other issues may need to take iron.
Drinking a lot of coffee can also make it difficult for the body to absorb the necessary minerals it needs to function. Coffee prohibits iron absorption and can make it hard for the kidneys to absorb and retail zinc, calcium, magnesium, and more. Even eating diets rich in these minerals and taking supplements may not be enough to get all of the minerals you need due to this issue.
Riboflavin and B2
Riboflavin is one of the B vitamins that is very important for your body. It’s classified as vitamin B2, and it’s really easy to tell when you have a large amount of riboflavin in your body: your urine will be bright yellow! However, that’s nothing to be alarmed about. It’s just how the body removes extra riboflavin from the body. It’s also helpful in metabolizing iron. It’s possible that having a B2 deficiency actually leads to having an iron deficiency. That’s because some studies have linked a lack of B2 to anemia, showing that it’s possible that riboflavin is necessary for iron absorption.
