Organic Health and Lifestyle: An Expensive Fad or the Future?

Discover the pros and cons of organic health and lifestyle, and how it slowly shapes the future of our health and nutrition in a variety of ways.

So why the term "organic" seem to be trending nowadays? And take note, it is not only applicable to food, but we see them dominating even beauty, sanitation, garments, cleaning, food and water containers, and even cookware products! While these non-food items can be safely categorized as "fads" or "fancy" at the moment, people are becoming more inclined to organic foods in general. With the technology putting more impact in the wave of health and nutrition, no wonder that people are starting to patronize foods that have the word "organic" in the label.

Organic Versus Non-organic Methods

So how is a crop or produce can be categorized as organic or non-organic? And how organic farming is beneficial? The term "organic" pertains to the methods used to grow and process an agriculturally-based produce, normally fruits, vegetables, and livestock. The conventional methods and farming and livestock raising are applied, and without using alternative or unnatural pesticides, fertilizers and animal feeds.

On the other hand, non-organic farming and raising methods involve the use of some chemically-infused pesticides, fertilizers and feeds to boost production and speed up the growth of the livestock. Preservatives are also sometimes added on the produce when it reaches the market, to prolong its life in the shelves.

The drawback of organic based products is its price. Those also tend to be seasonal, and incapable of meeting huge demands because of its tedious methods and lack of use of "boosters" to supplement faster and more bountiful harvest. But lately, since marketers see the huge potential in the market for those, large-scale farms began to invest in efficient ways in producing more of it. But generally, it is still more expensive than the commercially-available ones.

Why Should I Go Organic?

Organic food for health and lifestyle began as an emerging craze, or maybe an advocacy, or even a marketing strategy. Regardless, we know it is being welcomed by the consumers with open arms, proving how effective the marketing is, basically. But scientifically, organic produces are generally healthier than its commercially grown and processed counterpart. We are also confident that the nutrients naturally found in fruits, vegetables and meats are not altered with chemicals from pesticides and unnatural animal feeds. We can also expect fresher produces every time we visit an organic market.

So is it a fad, or the future? The answer is it can be both. There are sides of going organic that seem to be going overboard, that's being magnified by marketing technology. While we are not supposed to patronize every item or food that claims it is "organic", it pays to be a wise shopper.

When shopping for organic items, especially foods, it is best to check its label and look for its ingredients. There are also organic products for health like Organic and Kosher Certified PURE Açai Berry Pulp Puree Liquid, which claims to be made from organic ingredients. Organic and natural health and lifestyle is not a fad, but one must be careful in choosing right.
