Managing Diabetes with Diet
People with diabetes, especially when they’re first diagnosed, may try to control it with diet. While diabetics will also have to cut back on their sugar intake, it’s important to remember that you don’t have to give up all cookies, cakes, and other desserts. Instead, simply eat them in moderation. Have one small piece of cake instead of three large ones.
Remember that while all sugars will make your blood sugar rise, even natural sugars, there are some foods with sugars that are good for you.
Another important factor in your diet is what you eat together. Eating a meal with some carbs can be fine if you balance those carbs with proteins. This can help the body absorb the carbs more slowly so your blood sugar doesn’t spike.
