Foods that have additives or if they were processed using meat or dairy equipment may lose their pareve status. Fruits and vegetables are checked for contamination by insects or larvae.

Primarily, kosher foods may be regarded as safer and healthier because of the strict guidelines and monitoring in producing and certifying them. To illustrate, fruits and vegetables undergo intensive inspection to make sure that they are free from insects or additives.
