Battling Colon Cancer
Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers in the U.S., but while there are many who die from it every year, the death rate has greatly diminished thanks to forms of early detection and new treatments. There are even some new screenings that can prevent colon cancer before it forms. Understanding what colon cancer is and how it affects your body is the first step in learning how to battle it.
One of the biggest things you can do to make it easier to defeat colon cancer is to have a great diet. Research shows that a healthy diet can help with any type of cancer, but it is especially necessary for those who are undergoing treatment for colon cancer. Most doctors will put those with colon cancer on a diet that has very little saturated fats or salts in it. They will also have their patients increase the amount of fruits and vegetables they eat, especially those that are high in antioxidants and various vitamins and minerals.
In addition to eating a lot of brightly colored vegetables and fruits, doctors also recommend that their patients cut back on the red meat and replace it with fresh fish. They should also stop using tobacco and limit the amount of alcohol that they drink. Getting out there and exercising is also a great idea, especially for those who are overweight.
There are a few different supplements you might think about taking, too. Omega-3 fatty acids and fiber can both help deal with some of the side effects of colon cancer.
You may also want to start taking an acai berry supplement. Research has shown that a supplement such as the acai berry may be able to provide you with a number of benefits.
