Are Supplements Regulated?
When you’re making the decision to add supplements to your diet, it’s important that you take the time to research your options and make the very best decision. This is especially true because some manufacturers can be a little less than honest when it comes to the effectivity and content of their pills. That’s why you have to look for trusted supplements that are evaluated by objective agencies. These agencies can help determine whether or not a supplement lives up to certain claims, at least when it comes to ingredients and content. Let’s take a look at what you can look for to keep yourself safe.
Supplements that have undergone independent certification for their Kosher ingredients are one example of things to look at when you’re looking for a trustworthy supplement. By assessing the claims of the Kosher certification, you can at least rest assured that the ingredients adhere to some form of dietary standards. This is, of course, not the most relevant or important certifications to keep in mind when you’re attempting to find out whether or not a particular supplement contains what it says it contains, but it’s a start!
Another, more comprehensive certification to look at when you’re assessing a supplement’s claims is an organic certification. Conducted by objective, independent, and reputable organizations like the QAI, organic certifications help show that the supplement in question meets the fairly rigid standards to be considered organic. This is another certification to keep in mind when you’re looking at the overall trustworthiness of a supplement.
Fair Trade Certification
While this is a title that is currently subject to a bit of controversy, a supplement with a fair trade certification has adhered to the set of standards that the certification body has determined. It’s not a guarantee that the supplement in question is 100% trustworthy, of course, but it’s certainly something to keep in mind.
It’s important that you do your research on the organizations that are certifying the supplements in question. Check out their qualifications and decide for yourself whether or not you trust their opinion. In general, supplements with multiple certifications from independent organizations are far more likely to be honest in their claims than those that don’t.
